WHEREAS, Ride 2 Freedom (Ride2Freedom), composed of 30 young cyclists from around the world, embarked on a 3,000 mile journey from Las Angeles, CA, to Washington, DC, to call attention to the plight of orphaned children of Falun Dafa practitioners persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party for their spiritual beliefs; and

WHEREAS, Falun Dafa is a spiritual practice persecuted in China because its practitioners see the principles of Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance as a higher good than the Communist Party, Children of Falun Dafa practitioners who have been arrested or persecuted to death are left without homes or families, and are often sought by the state to be punished for their parent’s beliefs; and

WHEREAS, The young cyclists rally their way across the country, meeting with supporters at every stop before reaching Washington D.C. for a special hurrah with national leaders. From there, the team will travel to New York City to address the UN General Assembly. Ultimately, some riders will travel to China to rescue specific orphans; and

WHEREAS, The Ride2Freedom team arrives in Fort Way on July 6, 2015; and

WHEREAS, The righteous action of Ride2Freedom should be commended.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, THOMAS C. HENRY, Mayor of the City of Fort Wayne, Indiana, do herby proclaim, July 6, 2015, as

RIDE2FREEDOM DAY

in Fort Wayne, encouraging all citizens to duly note this occasion.
