Whereas, Ride 2 Freedom began on June 1, 2015, International Children’s Day, with a group of thirty young people from five continents traveling 3,300 miles across the United States on bicycles; and

Whereas, Ride 2 Freedom began its forty-five-day cycling journey from Los Angeles to Washington, DC, to publicize and promote awareness of the plight of children orphaned in China due to the lack of spiritual freedom; and

Whereas, the mission of Ride 2 Freedom’s cyclists is to make a difference in the lives of orphaned children of parents persecuted to death by the Chinese Community party for their spiritual beliefs in Falun Dafa; and

Whereas, Falun Dafa (also know as Falun Gong) is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline founded by Li Hongzhi in 1992 and consists of spiritual and moral teachings, meditation, and exercises based upon the universal principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance; and

Whereas, Falun Dafa has been persecuted in its country of origin June 10, 1999, when then President Jiang Zemin of the Chinese Communist Party ordered the creation of the six-ten office, a covert and unregulated branch of security specifically designed to “eradicated” Falun Gong; and

Whereas, Falun Dafa practitioners have been arrested and tortured to death since that time, their children left without families or homes, often pursued by the state, and abused for their parents’ beliefs; and

Whereas, these young cyclists are making their way across the United States, meeting with supporters at every stop before reaching Washington, DC, to meet with national leaders to expose the persecutions; and

Whereas, the Ride 2 Freedom team will arrive in Columbia, Missouri, on June 29, 2015:

Now, therefore, be it resolved that we, the members of the Missouri House of Representatives, Ninety-eighth General Assembly, join to applaud the goals and efforts association with Ride 2 Freedom and to convey to all those involved this legislative body’s heartfelt best wishes for continued success along their journey to Washington, DC; and

Be it further resolved that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for Ride 2 Freedom.
